Saint-Bernard breeding farm
Did you know that the long-haired Saint-Bernard, which
is the most common breed of Saint-Bernard, came from crossing the
short-haired variety with Newfoundland dogs? There
are now fewer than 200 short-haired Saint-Bernards in
France. The Les Houches breeding farm is the largest
in the Alps. Initially bred as a guard dog, in the
XVIIIth century the monks of the Grand Saint-Bernard started
using them to look for lost travellers.
